How Does ELOS Hair Removal Work?

The ELOS system uses radiofrequency energy to activate the hair shaft while simultaneous laser pulses directly target the hair follicle.
Since the treatment does not rely exclusively on melanin, it is also effective on light, red, and grey hair.

During each session, hair follicles in the active growth phase are destroyed. On average, approximately 20% of hair follicles are eliminated per treatment, which is why multiple sessions are required.
The exact number of treatments depends on the treated area, skin type, hair type, and previous hair removal methods.

In general:

• for light skin with dark hair, 4–6 sessions may be sufficient
• for darker skin tones or light/grey hair, additional sessions may be required

Is the Treatment Painful?

ELOS technology is one of the gentlest laser hair removal methods available. Most clients experience only a mild warming or tingling sensation.
In more sensitive areas—such as the intimate region—or in cases of coarse hair, temporary discomfort may occur.

The device continuously monitors skin temperature with each pulse and automatically adjusts cooling, ensuring a safe and comfortable treatment experience.

Preparation for Treatment

• Arrive with the treated area freshly shaved.
• Waxing should be avoided for 2–4 weeks prior to treatment.
• Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 1–2 weeks before and after treatments.
• Do not apply cosmetics to the treatment area (e.g. body lotion, deodorant).
• The use of self-tanning products is not recommended during the treatment series.

Treatment Procedure

• Both the client and the practitioner wear protective eyewear.
• A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area.
• Laser pulses are delivered approximately every 2 seconds.
• Treatment duration depends on the size of the area:
  • underarms: approx. 8–10 minutes
  • legs: approx. 60 minutes

The interval between treatments is usually 6–8 weeks, depending on the body area.

Contraindications

The treatment is not recommended in the following cases:

• use of photosensitizing medications
• recently waxed or tanned skin
• active skin conditions in the treatment area (eczema, psoriasis, rashes)
• fever, inflammation, or severe illness
• tattooed skin areas

Possible Side Effects

Side effects are rare and generally mild. Temporary redness, slight swelling, or minor pigmentation changes may occur, all of which typically resolve on their own within a short time.
The menstrual cycle does not affect the treatment.
Laser hair removal for children is performed only upon medical recommendation.
